A pilot project started in 2006 with an Emcebee Cleanflow® system for paper web cleaning produced the desired results.
Following the positive results, the management of the company decided to equip the cold-set rotary presses with this system (for reasons of confidentiality the company name is not mentioned).
During the pilot project a work group assessed the applicability of the system for new presses.
The steering group recently decided to accept the advice of the work group and also equip the new presses.
Less contamination
The Cleanflow@ system removes loose paper fibres from the surface of the paper web. This occurs immediately after the roller-changer, before the web enters the printing system. Despite the relatively small amount of dust that is removed (from experience on this project: 5 grams dust per ton of paper, depending on the type of paper), the effect on reducing the contamination of the rubber blankets is enormous. During the pilot project the wash interval increased from 80,000 rotations of the rubber blanket to 1.2 million rotations; only the cyan blanket (first printing gear) was lightly washed after 300,000 rotations.

Stability
The presses for the new building project are already fitted with a rubber blanket washing installation (Rotoclean). Important reasons for equipping the presses with the additional Cleanflow@ paper web cleaning system are the effects on quality, process monitoring and also reduced usage of washing agents.
In addition, the effect of different paper qualities (difference in dust content) on the printing process is reduced, meaning the whole process is more stable.
